Conectas sworn in as member of CNDH

The Coordinator of the Foreign Policy Program at Conectas, Camila Asano, was sworn in today, December 8, as an alternate member of the CNDH (National Human Rights Council). She will serve as the representative of Conectas on the Council. The Coordinator of the Foreign Policy Program at Conectas, Camila Asano, was sworn in today, December 8, as an alternate member of the CNDH (National Human Rights Council). She will serve as the representative of Conectas on the Council.

Linked to the Human Rights Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, the CNDH has the purpose of promoting and defending human rights through preventive, protective, reparatory and punitive actions against conducts and situations that threaten or violate these rights.

The Council is formed by 22 members, of which 11 are from government and 11 from civil society. Of the civil society members, one place is reserved for the Brazilian Bar Association and another for the National Council of Prosecutors General of the Federal and State Public Prosecutor’s Offices. The other 9 members were chosen by election.

As an alternate member, Conectas may participate in all the meetings of the Council but will only have voting rights when the full member is absent.
