Live: How the UN and the OAS are responding to the pandemic

How well have the main international human rights bodies, such as special rapporteurs of the UN and IACHR (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, of the OAS), responded to the emergencies imposed by the coronavirus pandemic around the world?

This is the topic of a debate between Camila Asano, program director at Conectas, and Jamil Chade, a correspondent in Geneva and columnist for UOL, to take place this Wednesday, April 29, at 6 pm.

About the participants

Jamil Chad has been a correspondent in Europe for two decades and his office is at the UN headquarters in Geneva. The São Paulo-born journalist has visited more than 70 countries and he serves on the network of anti-corruption experts of the global organization Transparency International. He has been president of the Foreign Press Association in Switzerland and contributes regularly to international outlets such as the BBC, CNN, CCTV, Al Jazeera, France24 and La Sexta, among others. Living in Switzerland since 2000, Chad is the author of five books, two of which have been finalists in the Jabuti Award. Among the awards received, the journalist has twice been
named the best Brazilian correspondent abroad by the organization Comunique-se.

Camila Asano is program director at Conectas, where she also coordinates the Democratic Space Program and the organization’s international work. Holding a degree in international relations and a masters in political science from the University of São Paulo (USP), Asano serves on the National Human Rights Council and the São Paulo Municipal Council for Migrant Policy, and she is also Executive Secretary of the Brazilian Human Rights and Foreign Policy Committee. She also has a seat on the Council of the Centre for Civil and Political Rights, which is based on Geneva (Switzerland), and on the Advisory Board of the International Environment Analysis Group (Gacint) at USP. She has been a professor of international relations at the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) in São Paulo since 2010.
