In conjunction with JOTA and with the support of the ICS – Climate and Society Institute, in the coming months Conectas will be publishing a series of articles that will seek to encourage the dissemination of legal information in the field of Law and Climate. National and international specialists will cover themes related to climate change and human rights, the international legal system regarding climate change, sustainable financing, strategic litigation, regulation of commerce for greenhouse gas emission, among others.

There is an intrinsic relationship between protecting the environment and fulfilling other fundamental rights. A number of international treaties and organs acknowledge that the realisation of the right to an ecologically balanced environment is a fundamental premise for carrying out other rights, such as the right to health, life and housing. It is also in itself, a highly pertinent fundamental right, as acknowledged in the 1988 Constitution, article 225 that states that “All persons are entitled to an ecologically balanced environment, which is an asset for the people’s common use and is essential to healthy life” (…)
