Event at the UN to discuss militarization of public security

An event in parallel to the Human Rights Council session will address the cases of Mexico and Brazil



The growing use of the Armed Forces to resolve problems concerning public security will be the theme of an event to take place on Tuesday 19 June, in Geneva, during the 38th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Olga Guzmán, from Mexico, from the CMDPDH (the Mexican Commission for the Defence and Promotion of Human Rights) and from Brazil, Gustavo Huppes, from Conectas, and Fabio Amado, public defender in the state of Rio de Janeiro will be participating in the debate. Clément Nyaletsossi, UN special rapporteur on freedom of peaceful assembly and of association will also be participating in the event.
