On Wednesday (4th), at 3:30 pm, the Commission on Human Rights and Minorities of the Chamber of Deputies held a public hearing to debate on immigration regularization and the closing of borders in Brazil during the period of covid-19 pandemic. Follow the debate live here.
Representatives of civil society as well as researchers, members of the Federal government and the Federal Public Ministry participate in the public hearing. Camila Asano, Director of program at Conectas, is also one of the guests.
Since the onset of pandemic, the Federal government has published dozens of inter-ministerial decrees that restrict migration into the country through land borders. These decrees authorize, among others, the instant deportation of people, even if they have the right to refuge, which has spun into a legal dispute.
