Conectas denounced at the UN Human Rights Council, this Monday (24th of June), the processing of the Drugs PEC in the National Congress. For the organization, the proposal deepens the problems of current criminal legislation, which does not have parameters capable of distinguishing drug use from trafficking, that mostly affects young black people.
“It is paramount that the Brazilian State must urgently refrain from legislating against human rights in the criminal justice system and commit to a drug policy based on harm reduction, implementing measures of attention and care in freedom that are built with the participation of civil society, especially the people who are most affected”, says the speech.
Conectas also added that. Brazil needs to make a change in approach, suggesting the adoption of drug policies based on harm reduction and that involve civil society in the construction of these policies.
